IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship → IWGP United States Championship – Nowhere on the specific physical title belt says the word "Heavyweight" on it. Neither on both English https://www.njpw1972.com/profiles/ and Japanese http://www.njpw.co.jp/profiles NJPW Official websites. It's time now to move it to its correct and legit name. 92.27.41.69 (talk) 19:04, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
- I don't understand Japanese. But in English, I see the title as United States Championship. For me, it's Support --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 23:30, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
- Comment. The Japanese page does say "heavyweight" in Japanese. Dekimasuよ! 17:33, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support just look at the front of the belt, does not say "heavyweight" on it. MPJ-DK 01:21, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support: Unless it is important that it is a heavyweight belt, it doesn't need to be labelled as such. Technically the WWE Intercontinental Championship is also a heavyweight championship. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 09:30, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support: The IWGP Intercontinental Championship and IWGP Tag Team Championship are also technically "Heavyweight" Championships, doesn't have to be listed as such, unless there are Junior Heavyweight versions of the championships. D4K074J03 (talk) 18:30, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
Comment: - It's not what we want. It's what the promotion calls it. Does NJPW actually call it the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship? If so, we shouldn't change it. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 15:12, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose: NJPW calls it the United States Heavyweight Championship. The Japanese article linked by the nominator uses this name (USヘビー級王座), where "ヘビー級" literally means "heavyweight". And while the English site's roster page does not have the word heavyweight in it (likely due to lack of space), match listings such as this one: https://www.njpw1972.com/tornament/15834?showResult=1 do. It's not about the title "technically" being a heavyweight title, it's about the the name of the title actually including the word "heavyweight". And since when have we gone by what the actual belts say? Those things have had misspellings or other errors in them since the beginning of time. The Ozzy Mandias (talk) 17:21, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- The central question is not what they officially call it themselves, but what it is usually called. Dekimasuよ! 17:33, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

Requested move 1 February 2020
[edit]I'd to request we reopen the debate to the official name of the championship. After recently seeing Jon Moxley's NJPW return and seeing his booked matched with KENTA, they list the title on the match's promotion as the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship, it just doesn't sit right with me seeing it on here as with out "Heavyweight" in it's name. Apologize in advance if I didn't bring in this up properly. 14:29, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
