I would like to propose the merger of Burford Brown, ISA Brown, Daisy Belle, Dekalb Amberlink, Lohmann Brown, Miss Pepperpot, Freedom Ranger (chicken), Red Shaver, Sex link and possibly pieces of Cornish game hen together to form an article. I'm unsure on the mergers final title, but perhaps Hybrid chickens would be best. Presently, many of these are stubs without references, or as in Sex link in a confusing title space. Most or all of them would be better suited to merge into an encompassing article on commercial hybrid "breeds" (and I use the term lightly). JTdale Talk 12:16, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
- I support this suggestion. It's pretty much what we discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Poultry#Burford Brown, and I'd like to see Burford Brown included here too. However, I'd suggest merging part only of the content of {{Sex link]] into the new page, as sex-linking is a characteristic of some true breeds as well – it has incoming links from Potchefstroom Koekoek, Jærhøns, Campine (chicken) etc. Rather than an article as such, the new page could perhaps be a List of commercial chicken hybrids? - Ah! Thanks, I couldn't remember the name of the page we discussed it about. I'll add Burford Brown to the proposal. I personally think that most of the sex link articles content would be merged. Yes sex linking is a quality in quite a few purebreds (Legbar for example) but I think it can just explained in a single sentence on each of the respective breeds pages; I don't feel it has enough sources to be an independent article as it stands, and I also think for clarity purposes it would be more sensible under Chicken hybrids or some such thing. To none chicken keepers, the title could potentially prove confusing as well. As for the idea of a list, I expect that could just go on forever. Every company seems to have their own form of hybrid and many of them are less than notable, with many nothing more than trade names for other varieties. JTdale Talk 13:58, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Unlikely this is a hybrid
[edit]I see hybrid used fast and loose on anything that appears to be different or off the norm. "...developed by breeding unrelated "dam" and "sire" lines together" does not a hybrid make. If they were out-crossed to a different species like Gallus lafayettii or Gallus varius, then yes, a hybrid. Chances are these are crosses of different breeds of Gallus gallus. A Corgi crossed with a Dalmatian is not a hybrid. Love, -rudyard (talk) 06:34, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
