- IPad (2019) → IPad (7th generation)
- IPad (2018) → IPad (6th generation)
- IPad (2017) → IPad (5th generation)
– Generational disambiguations are the most consistent with other specific iPad models. See: iPad (1st generation) through iPad (4th generation), iPad (8th generation), and every other iPad without a specific name (eg, iPad Mini (5th generation)). They are also the most likely common names going forward, following Apple's naming conventions of recent years. The only exception appears to be the iPad (2017), as "5th generation" was initially confused with the iPad Air on release (as the Air was Apple's fifth full-sized iPad), but I suspect that this confusion has likely mostly gone by now, and the Air is seen as its own product line. That article was recently the subject of a brief move discussion, so I understand if people feel that it should remain, but I don't believe the same argument applies to the two later models. — HTGS (talk) 03:02, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose moves. As I said earlier: four years later, generation numbering is more confusing, because reliable sources refer to the 2017 model as "the 2017 iPad" without providing a generation number. O.N.R. (talk) 04:17, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- I think if this is the extent of the problem, it can be solved by the addition of something like
"sometimes referred to as the 2017 iPad…"
, but I see your point. — HTGS (talk) 06:44, 28 May 2021 (UTC)

- Support per WP:CONSISTENT. It also helps that Apple calls them by these names in their documentation and marketing materials. See the other generations which are named like this in the iPad line, as well as the naming in the other iPad product lines (iPad Air (4th generation), iPad mini (5th generation), etc). These are the outliers and should be consistent with those other names. —Locke Cole • t • c 06:16, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
