April 2021 dispute

Despite the continued objections of user 123Clover, I see no reason why the text "Starting in April of 2021, the company began stealing money from independent content creators on YouTube by setting up a system to file thousands of false copyright claims." cannot be considered properly sourced based on the referenced video. At a minimum, it establishes sufficiently that:

-- Ingrooves sent numerous copyright claims over a specific song, in the name of a specific artist.

-- The artist in question made it clear that she does not own the rights to the song, and did not authorize Ingrooves to make any such claims in her name.

-- The artist who does own the rights to the song made it clear that it was used with permission in the targeted videos, and that Ingrooves has no rights to it.

-- Ingrooves was repeatedly made aware of all this but refused to take any action, and indeed continued making more false copyright claims.

-- There are many reports of Ingrooves doing the same thing to other content creators in the present, and many more reports of them doing the same thing with different copyrighted content that they do not own the rights to in the past several years, thus establishing that this is not a one-off mistake but a conscious policy by the company.

Indeed, the current text is very mild, only mentioning the current wave of theft, and suggesting the policy only started in April 2021. A more accurate description of the company would include its history of doing this exact scam for years now, with plenty of references. Vercinger (talk) 19:46, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

1. Please update the Infobox with the following lines:

Rationale: Removes CTO, CAO and CFO. Deletes the number of employees because it is unsourced. Adds company logo. Condenses types of business, which are redundant. Adds area served (see requested edits #6-8 below detailing worldwide expansion.

2. Please REPLACE the first paragraph of the lead that begins:

Ingrooves Music Group is a global independent music marketing service….”

WITH:

Ingrooves Music Group is a digital music distribution service owned by Universal Music Group that provides marketing, publishing, licensing for independent artists, record labels and content owners. Ingrooves uses a platform combining data analytics, physical and digital distribution, and marketing insights, that artists and independent labels can use to manage their businesses.

Rationale: Rewrites first sentence for structure and clarification, and updates services to include marketing, publishing and licensing, based on the most recent reliable sourcing.. Replaces Variety source with Biz Journals, which provides more context and information about the company. Removes the second sentence because it is not in the sources listed and is inaccurate. Updates third sentence with specifics about Ingrooves’ operations, and corrects grammatical and sentence structure. Updates sources. In all, this is a better summary of the article after it is updated with Requests #4-8

4. In the new History section, please update the first paragraph that begins:

Rationale: Updates first sentence to include all founders and provides reliable sourcing. Corrects the second sentence to specify why the company was created, and services offered. Updates with supporting sources for all.

5. In the new History section, please replace the second sentence in the second paragraph that begins:

“In 2010, Shamrock Capital—an investment fund founded by [[Roy E. Disney]....

WITH:

Ingrooves and Mexican label DEL Records formed an online distribution agreement in 2010. The investment firm Shamrock Capital purchased a majority stake in the company in 2010 for $20 million. In 2012 Ingrooves took over Fontana Distribution, which was owned by Universal Music Group. The deal added 200 labels to the Ingrooves roster, and expanded its services to include physical distribution of recordings. The deal also allowed Ingrooves to use Universal’s local sales forces in selling products in retail stores. Corrects acquisition date - according to Variety and Billboard sources, the announcement for the acquisition agreement was made on Feb 12, 2019 - it did not close on that date. Expands details of Universal acquisition. Adds reliable sourcing.

8. After the fifth paragraph in the new History section, before the paragraph that begins:

Ingrooves signed Rich Music to a distribution deal in 2018 and Pitbull’s Mr. 305 Inc. to a worldwide distribution deal in 2019 for all of the label’s releases. The same year Ingrooves renewed its distribution partnership with independent British record label Dirty Hit. The company expanded into Brazil through a deal with Brazilian label GR6, and formed deals with independent labels in Spain, Norway, Turkey, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, and Sweden in 2020.

Under a deal with parent company Universal Music Group, Ingrooves became the distributor for K-pop band BTS in 2021. Ingrooves signed India’s Yo Yo Honey Singh and Himesh Reshammiya in 2021. It acquired South African independent music distributor Electromode in 2021, and the Phillipines’ Curve Entertainment in 2022.

Hi PK650. Thanks for your help on answering some of the requests! Are you able to address #2? It’s the update to the lead - currently the lead is incorrect and outdated, and missing reliable sourcing. The updated version I provided corrects all the issues.

For request #4, the first sentence was changed, but the second sentence mentions storefronts, which is incorrect. Can you please replace it with the following:

The company was created to offer independent artists and music labels access to digital distribution, marketing and publishing services.

Hi. #2 wasn't fully implemented because I didn't think it significantly called for major alterations, and just seemed like an attempt at adding PR-speak to basically say the same thing. Re #4, I am not deleting the sentence in question because it was correct as of the specified (2015) date, and as en encyclopedia this is valid information to include. Hi. Thanks for carefully considering this PK650. I am appreciative of your time. I’d ask that you at least delete the second sentence in the lead about company organization because it is both false (it is written in the present tense) and isn’t supported by the sources. Here it is: “The company's three divisions include distribution services, rights management services, rights removal, and artist services.” You’ll see there are four names of divisions listed – someone angry at the company added “rights removal” which was never a division, even in the past. Here’s where is was added, without any new sources (along with a bunch of other semi-literate vandalism.) [1] You won’t find mention of “rights removal” in any source as a division of the company, at any time in its history. It’s absurd. In the proposed lead, I provided recent sources that describe the company’s organization and tried my best to summarize it accurately. I had no promotional intent – just an update since those three divisions (the actual three) aren’t in use anymore.. Putting that aside, can we at least correct the mistake in sentence two by deleting it since it’s archaic? Or going even narrower than that, at least take out “rights removal”, which is unsourced vandalism meant to attack the company. Whitman263 (talk)
