The result of the move request was: Moved. This is part of the unfortunate trend of cable channels eliminating names that suggest any actual content, so that they can add programming that deviates from their customary format. We can bemoan the trend, but we cannot deny that it exists. R'n'B (call me Russ) 17:47, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
Independent Film Channel (Canada) → IFC (Canada) — Let's face it: CanWest refers to this channel everywhere as "IFC": On IFC's official website, on all of CanWest's websites, promotions, and on the channel itself. The "Independent Film Channel" is no longer used anywhere else than on the CRTC's databases. --InMontreal (talk) 03:20, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose. Google [1] gets more than 90,000 hits, so the claim that this title is no longer used anywhere else than on the CRTC's databases is just plain false. The current title also avoids confusion with many other IFCs, of which International Finance Centre gets a particularly high ghit count. Andrewa (talk) 13:37, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- Support. If we look at the British Broadcasting Corporation, CBC Television (no full name redirect or article exists for this station) and Independent Television are all commonly known by their abbreviations, and each of these articles is named by the abbreviation, with a redirect from the paged titled with their full name. I suggest therefore, that a convention exists. Philip.t.day talk 10:07, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
- Support. It's difficult to form a search engine test that doesn't include many irrelevant results, but I get the impression that IFC is the more commonly used name. SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 04:03, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
