First staged in 1963, then in 1966 and every other year until 1984 when it became an annual event as the IBSF (formed in 1971) superseded the old B&SCC as the world amateur governing body. Officially known as the IBSF World Championship since 1989,it is staged in a different country each time, bringing a world championship to all snooker-playing corners of the globe.
