New Name

[edit]

Officially, the I-10 Twin Spans is now called the Frank Davis "Naturally N'Awlins" Memorial Bridge. [1] [2] I will have to make a drive to see if any signs are in place designating the new name. Night Tracks (talk) 03:33, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I made the drive about 1½ weeks ago and yes, the signs at the entrance of the bridge does indeed say Frank Davis "Naturally N'Awlins" Memorial Bridge so I will go ahead and move it to its new name and its old name will now redirect to the new name. WP:COMMONNAME: unless common usage is to call it by the new name, it should remain at the common name (which is not an old name but merely another name). --NE2 03:59, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So until the day more people start calling it the "Frank Davis Bridge", the article will remain as "I-10 Twin Span Bridge" in the foreseeable future? How about the Crescent City Connection that was renamed in 1989? Some people (ie. my parents) are still calling it by the old name GNO or Greater New Orleans Bridge. Even I still dislike the current tacky CCC name that some schoolchildren came up with. I like to imagine had Wikipedia existed back then would it had faced a similar situation on what name to use? As I said to your identical comment on AARoads, that's Wikipedia policy. Don't call it what some politician named it unless enough others do. --NE2 06:11, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
