Economic Importance
[edit]The article states:
- "The presence of the pest affects the economy of over 20 million families that depends on the coffee harvest. It has caused marked reduction in the prices of the coffee and speculation in the international markets."
Does the above make sense. I can understand if it is the case that:
- Damaged coffee beans are of lower value, reducing the sale price to growers.
- Crops with some beetles in them have to treated somehow to remove/kill the beetles reducing the sale price to growers.
However, if beetles reduce world-wide coffee production, the shortage of good quality coffee would increase prices to growers in areas unaffected.
I think the sentences quoted above should be rewritten.--20.133.0.14 11:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Article name/species name
[edit]I was just wondering whether there is a specific reason that the article name ("Coffee borer beetle") does not correspond to the only given informal species name (coffee berry borer)? Should these not be the same, or should "Coffee borer beetle" at least be added to the list of informal names given in the intro? Alternatively maybe the article name should be changed?
