This page needs a picture of hyperbolic growth.
This page needs an explanation of what hyperbolic growth means!
(i.e. "grows towards a singularity under finite variation" does not give me any kind of clue) 139.184.30.19 13:31, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Scope of term?
[edit]Is the term hyperbolic growth used for:
- all growth towards a mathematical singularity (i.e., any function that goes to infinity in finite time), or
- only growth that looks like a hyperbola?
I ask because, for instance, has a singularity (at 0), but the graph is not a hyperbola: thus, strictly speaking, it is not hyperbolic, but perhaps the term is used loosely by analogy.
Any references or experts? Thanks!

I think replacing with would improve the page. The latter function does grow toward an asymptote, and does have a limit of infinity at . Are there any objections?

Introduction
[edit]The introduction states that the limit of 1/x as x aproaches 0 is infinity. But this is not true as the limit as x aproaches 0 from the left equals - infinity and from the right it equals infinity. Therefore the limit does not exist as the left and right hand limits are not equal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.201.214.214 (talk) 20:03, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
- All that was needed here was the single letter change of infinity to infinite. Minus-infinity is still 'infinite'. --Nigelj (talk) 07:42, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
