Negative hydrogen clusters
[edit]The section about negative hydrogen clusters not existing is now outdated. See [1].
They did find H5-, but I’m a little surprised by its structure. I’d always thought that if H5- existed, it would have a pentagonal ring shape like some aromatic molecules (but involving s-orbital electrons instead of p, since hydrogen doesn’t have the latter).
Instead, it’s a hydride ion flanked by two H2 molecules. Looks like “s-orbital aromaticity” isn’t a real thing (at least not for hydrogen). LonelyBoy2012 (talk) 00:08, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
