I found this page by searching for "influent" as in influent and effluent and was really wanting to check my spelling. This showed a 1% probable hit on my search but was far closer than any other listed near the top.
Anyway, while this particular subject is listed in "Chemistry," I am more familiar with hydraulics and retention time in the area of storm water control, open channel flow, and other general Civil Engineering/water treatment and control topics. I only offer this as a potential for additional research or reference.
