Proposed move to "2005 Hyderabad Open"
[edit]Are there any objections to move this article to 2005 Hyderabad Open to match the naming pattern for other tennis tournaments? For example:
- 2005 WTA Tour
- 2005 Next Generation Hardcourts
- 2005 Medibank International
- 2005 Richard Luton Properties Canberra International Open - Women's Singles
- 2005 Australian Open
- 2007 Proximus Diamond Games
- 2008 Proximus Diamond Games
- 2003 Hyderabad Open
- 2004 Hyderabad Open
- 2007 Bangalore Open
- 2008 Bangalore Open
As an editor has already created an article at "2005 Hyderabad Open" we will need to do this as an administrative action. This will allow us to preserve the article history for this article and will delete the article, and its edit history, at "2005 Hyderabad Open." --Marc Kupper|talk 00:06, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- There should be no argument because, as you said, that is the standard way we do things on wikipedia...date first then tournament name... even the US Open pages are like that. Fyunck(click) (talk) 01:01, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- Support. I agree, this looks like an obvious move. I think this is uncontroversial enough that we don't need to go through the whole requested move process. Could we get a passing admin to just move the page without waiting for a week? — Mr. Stradivarius ♫ 11:22, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, my mistake, I see this hasn't actually been requested at requested moves yet. The naming goes year-first for the Wimbledon tournaments as well - I can't see any reasonable objections to moving this one to fit with the others. — Mr. Stradivarius ♫ 14:19, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- I had decided to go with the check/seek-consensus route for this seemingly uncontroversial move given the edit battle with Saihimesh when he/she created an article at 2005 Hyderabad Open and then attempted to redirect this article to his/her version of the title and content. There's also the issue that the edit history and resulting historical content that Saihimesh wanted will be deleted by this move.
- See User_talk:Saihimesh#Your contributed article, 2005 Hyderabad Open, User_talk:Saihimesh#Duplicating articles, and User_talk:Saihimesh#June 2011. Some of the "debate" (in quotes as Saihimesh is not participating) involves the article title.
- I believe Saihimesh also supports the proposed title he/she is active on creating 2005 Hyderabad Open – Singles, 2005 Hyderabad Open – Doubles, and 2005 Hyderabad Open – Singles Qualifying. I'll put in the admin request now and see if he/she will move or if we should use the formal WP:RM route.

Admin, this is a request to move this article to 2005 Hyderabad Open. I believe there is complete agreement on the proposed article title. There may be disagreement about the article content as an editor had created an article at "2005 Hyderabad Open" and then made multiple attempts to redirect this article[1][2][3][4] to his/her version and then attempted to modify this article[5] (three edits in a two-minute span) into a stub that presumably would allow his/her version to be introduced. If you feel this would be better handled by a formal WP:RM then I'm fine with that. Thank you. --Marc Kupper|talk 19:49, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- I completed the page move after the target page was speedy deleted. Now we can think about whether we want to merge all the other articles too. — Mr. Stradivarius ♫ 21:55, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
Single article or multiple?
[edit]Saihimesh has created three separate pages that cover aspects of this tournament
- 2005 Hyderabad Open – Singles - largely the same content as what's currently on this article. There are inconsistencies that will need to be ironed out before we can merge these. For example, should Shikha Uberoi have the USA or India flag? Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tennis#Tennis articles in breach of MOSFLAG seems to be a relevant discussion though if it's conclusive I did not spot it.
- 2005 Hyderabad Open – Doubles
- 2005 Hyderabad Open – Singles Qualifying
Presumably, a forth page will be created for 2005 Hyderabad Open – Doubles Qualifying
Saihimesh's presumed goal was to have this article only summarize the finals and that the details of the results would be on their own pages.
I personally am undecided on which format is "better" and if Wikipedia should even be used to document the details of a Tier IV. --Marc Kupper|talk 18:13, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
- It seems like we'd run into notability issues with articles like 2005 Hyderabad Open – Singles Qualifying, although I think this might be a good place to bow to precedence. What do other tennis tournament articles do? — Mr. Stradivarius ♫ 21:59, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- I started a survey starting at 2005 WTA Tour but ran out of time. There is no consistent pattern. I given we are documenting the full draw I believe it's more readable to have them on separate pages. However, I don't see how this article passes WP:Sports event much less articles for each part of the draw. --Marc Kupper|talk 03:23, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, separate articles are more readable, but I don't think any of them would pass muster at AfD. That said, I don't want to nominate them without going on a source hunt first, and it's entirely likely that there are sufficient sources in one of the Indian languages. Unless anyone else objects I'm happy to leave them the way they are, with the possible exception of the qualifiers article. — Mr. Stradivarius on tour♫ 06:51, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
