Hyderabad Page
Please contribute to various sections on the Hyderabad page.
Where to go with this article?
Okay, the article on Hyderabad is fairly long and well fleshed out. If anybody is interested, I think it would be a good idea to perhaps come up with a to-do list and work to complete it. Things like missing information, things that would be good to have in the article that we presently don't, editing to be done, etc. This way, the article will be truly complete and be of a uniform quality.
Any ideas? who wants to start?
I think we need to rework the section on Hyderabadi food - it just touches on some of the specialties and then moves on. --bikehorn 06:58, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
Food is a good Idea ! The Article can talk more about IMAX, Hyderabad Central, the new airport project, Lumbini & NTR Park, it's good map posted by some one , but don't you think it will be better is some one works a more precise road map of hyderabad.
hehehe i see one more thing here, some one suggest and replace the external link " the city website" , i think it's pointing to Hyderabad in Pakistan.
-Dude 20.139.83.50 05:08, 12 September 2005 (UTC) which link are you talking about???

Re-work on several sections
Guys,
Generally I take care of IT Industry, Bio-tech, Education and Defense sections.
Guys can you please do a quick re-work on the following...
- Demographics,
- Culture,
History section
I've beefed up the history section quite a bit.
--pavan 10:07, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
Reverted changes by 20.139.83.50. Do not truncate History completely, just compress it to what it should be on the main page. Chirags 15:41, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
Good job - Pavan
Pavan - You have done a great job, separating History of Hyderabad was a good idea.
But one more thing...... the charminar is the landmark of Hyderabad, so let's restore the charminar photo on the main Hyderabad page.
Let me know your comments.
Naveenji 15:21, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
Brought back the Charminar picture
Good idea - was thinking of doing it when I moved the history, but forgot. Now it's done!

Roads in Hyderabad
Guys,
We need to work on a new link article, Roads_In_Hyderabad . We can add the following..... Let me know your comments....
- Airport Road
- Greenlands Road
- Necklace Road
- NTR Marg
- Banjara Hills Road No 1/3/10
How about adding a google earth picture of Hyderabad? I saw one and its not as bad as a actual road map. hydkat 12:57, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
Could some one start adding HYDERABAD CITY BUS numbers for visitors
Needs more cleanup
Hi,
Removed several "also". cleaned up IT section. It was looking like chicken and the egg. Did HITEC made hyderabadi get into IT, or Hyderabadi's into IT forced IT industry in Hyderabad to be created.
Needs more cleanup. Lite Lelo :)

Re: Hyderabadis and the IT industry..
The Hyderabadis got into IT after witnessing the success of the industry in Bangalore back in the late 90s. The state government, after a few brainstorming sessions, decided to promote the IT industry by creating necessary infrasturture for them. This led to the creation of HiTec city and changed the face and direction of Hyderabad. The State has since then tried to emulate this success in Textiles, Biotech and more interestingly: Sports and Entertainment. The Hyderabadis have evolved to accomodate the demands and change in pace of their lives that this tranformation has brought about to their city. A new generation of well-educated and young emigrants have transformed the culture of the city.
(Someone: Please verify this angle... and put a para about this in the article page.)

Need to have a portal project
Hi,
In order to accomodate all the information about Hyderabad, it needs to have a Wiki portal on line of one created for New York City.
Chirags 18:12, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- I agree, a portal would help us better cover the Hyderabad material. Vvuppala 00:35, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
- Created a portal today. The link is available on the page itself. Please help to reorganize the content thru the portal. Chirags 20:33, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
Need to remove weblink from Hyderabad page and move them elsewhere
There is need to remove sundry weblinks from the page and move them elsewhere. Current events and those refences about what people say about Hyderabad should be probably part of news or quotes. Not part of Encyclopedia. Chirags 16:22, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
Altitude Info difference
On the page, Altitude mentioned is 541 Metres, different from Infobox, which says 536 Metres. Which one is right? Chirags 17:28, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- I guess altitude depends on the place the measurement was taken. (How do we say some altitude is the altitude of Hyderabad). Banjara Hills altitude will be entirely different from Dilsukhnagar altitude --Vyzasatya 20:39, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- Begumpet Airport is at 531m (ref) --Vyzasatya 20:46, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- another link [[1]]
- In most countries, the measurement reference point is Town Hall. Chirags 21:26, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
Hyderabad and Religion
There is need to expand religion list in Hyderabad e.g. There is a significant parsi population in Hyderabad. e.g. Founder of Chermas is a Parsi. They also have an area in their name, such as ParsiGutta, and Various Baugs, such as Eden Baug. They have several fire temples in the city. Similary, there is a significant Jain Population in Koti, Old City and Sikandarabad area. Chirags 15:44, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Added Zorastrianism and Jainism. Chirags 14:14, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
Category
Add all the related articles to Category:Hyderabad, India so that we can identify the articles that need improvement and generate content for portal --Vyzasatya 20:27, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Koti or Kothi?
What is the correct spelling? Kothi or Koti? I used to refer to it as Koti, when I stayed there. Even there are more pages returning for Koti, Hyderabad in search engines compared to Kothi, Hyderabad. Chirags 00:42, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
- Its King-koti (kings place) ... now come to think about its a part of Koti proper :)
hydkat 13:19, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Some links are linking back
Please don't link back... e.g. Sultan Bazaar is linking to Hyderabad, India page. That does not make sense. We need to have a write up on Sultan Bazaar on Sultan Bazaar page.
Language of Hyderabad
Hyderabad's primary languages should include Telugu, Deccani and Hindi and even English. Any city of India, that claims to a cosmopolitan need to have Hindi and English in it... otherwise they are not cosmopolitan.
In my personal experience of Hyderabad, Deccani and Hindi are primarily spoken in Core Hyderabad (Koti, Old City, General Bazaar, and all the old areas). The newer area such as KPHB, Malakpet also have sizable population of Deccani and Hindi speakers, but Telugu is more widely spoken there. Chirags 15:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Just a note: History is called as "Itihas" in Hindi and Sanskrit and many other Indian languages. It means Iti-Has, meaning that's the way it was then. Something that can be discovered but not altered. The language scape of Deccan region was altered drastically, due to Qutub Shahi, Mugal and Nizam rule. Chirags 16:00, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Forgotten Tribes!
There is a sizable sub-section of Hyderabadi society that appears to have been completely forgotten in this article. These include the tribal Banajaras and other such groups from the Telangana region who have existed here for centuries. I feel we need to include more info like this in the main page.
Added a line about the Banjaras in Demographics... need to add more communities.

Is Hyderabad second or third as Silicon Valley in India? Who cares?
Well, It probably does not matter at all if Hyderabad is second or third as Silicon Valley of India. Because as a fact, none of the cities are there yet... There are no large Silicon Chip making units yet :) we import most from Taiwan.
So let's not be part of number game.Chirags 22:02, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Can someone explain?
I found following: On the page.
Then there are many innovative markets or shopping malls as this current generation calls it, in which the only thing that they sell are "things" making it the first city in this world to sell only "things"
Besides IMAX, as hyderbradis call it, for their very own Multiplex, also has some shops, which can be window shopped without any fines.
Would someone be nice enough to explain, what does it mean?
Chirag 23:35, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- Delete it...
- BTW I like those new pictures someone put of birla mandir and ntr gardens...
- Don't you think we should get the staduims out of this page?
hydkat 06:39, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
mellifluous
Whoever's using the word 'mellifluous'. Pleeeese for the love of all things good stop using it!!! Its nice that you like the language but this is a dictionary and the damn word is a non-factual description. hydkat 11:14, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
7th, 6th and now 5th
If anyone checks the history section they'll realise that Hyderabad was upgraded from the 7th largest 'metropolis' to the 5th over a period of a month. It gives the impression that the city had a recent massive population explotion :)
The truth is there is no proper official data for the Hyderabad Metropolitant area though by estimation it probably is the 4th largest city (I expect someone will shortly change the '5th' to '4th'.)
Hyderabad City on the other hand has an official population of 3 million plus based on the last census recently taken. This definately does NOT make it the 4th, 5th or even 6th on the population scale index. So the the whole numbers game is basically... well, add a idiotic word to this sentence.
Plz place all commmunity related, portal site link in the Hyderbad portal
Hello,

and how does, "Charminar(Urdu: "Four Minars") monument, built in the center of Hyderabad by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591 as a commemoration of the eradication of a plague" belong as a lead in for Geography section? (Blacksun 07:36, 24 March 2006 (UTC))
