APLU is not an "organization of which the institution is a member [that] provides essential definition of the institution's core mission and values"

[edit]

I recently removed APLU from the "Affiliations" parameter of the the Template:Infobox university in this article using this edit summary: "this is not an "organization of which the institution is a member and provides essential definition of the institution's core mission and values"; see Template:Infobox university." Beyond My Ken reverted my edit with a request for further discussion in Talk.

The definition for this parameter and some of the affiliations that did not seem to meet it were discussed in mid-2020. More specifically, membership in APLU is open to any accredited public or land-grant university. So being a member doesn't tell us anything new about the institution that we don't already know from its basic classification as a public institution.

This was removed from every article over two years ago for good reason. Why should we make an exception for this article? ElKevbo (talk) 04:54, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanation. I'm not sure that I agree with the reasoning, but I'll withdraw my objection for the moment, at lest. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:20, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
