Very minor obscure reference

[edit]

Absolutely unworthy of comment in the main article, but perhaps of interest to a very dedicated researcher, might be a wine auction, by Messrs. Christie, Manson & Woods, on 8 May 1889, at which lots 87 to 96 totalled just over 29 dozen of Port, Kopke Roriz 1863. Sold at 86/-, 85/- and 84/- per dozen. The auctioneer’s catalogue has, in hand, “1 lot cs/- Lord Crewe”, implying that he wanted 1 lot = 3 dozen at no more than 85/- per dozen. (My pictures #19492-7.)
