The Hundred of Moule (together with the Hundreds of Bartlett, Horn and Catt) were surveyed for closer settlement by William Richard Murray, E B Jones and H J Cant between Nov. 1888 and June 1889. The Hundred was proclaimed on 17 Jan 1889 and named after John Moule MP (1884-1896). Storekeeper of Saddleworth. For a short period he was Commissioner of Public Works in the Downer Administration and interested himself in mining and land administration. <ref> 'Manning's Place Names of South Australia: From Aaron Creek to Zion Hill', Geoffrey H Manning, Adelaide, 2006
