Women have lighter skin due to sexual selection -not natural selection.

Quote from article:

"In addition, it has been observed that females on average are significantly lighter in skin pigmentation than males. Females need more calcium during pregnancy and lactation. The body synthesizes vitamin D from sunlight, which helps it absorb calcium. Females evolved to have lighter skin so their bodies absorb more calcium."

This is contradicted by the fact that pigmentation in females actually darkens during pregnancy (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanocyte-stimulating_hormone#In_humans).

Lighter skin pigmentation in females is due sexual selection deeming it a neotenous trait that signals youthfulness and ability to bear children. Netizenne (talk) 03:26, 11 June 2022 (UTC)
