MARIE CLAIRE? Is this for real? We're citing Marie Claire and Maxim on Wikipedia now? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.53.148.250 (talk) 01:19, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Women may also begin to moan ("Uh", "Fuck!", "Rah!" etc.).13:25, 13 November 2004 138.88.114.175
Really? Just women? Some of this needs to be reconsidered for cultural assumptions.04:28, 29 April 2006 66.41.66.213
- Or just re-written more carefully to be more informative. For instance, some women find stimulation after orgasm to be unpleasant. Not men? Maintaining an erection after the load has been shot? I've heard that's unpleasant. Maybe I should read a book about it or something. Anyway, yeah, some improvements needed, eh? More citations for specific info. Doesn't mean it isn't true, but what if I'm writing a paper, and I need to cite a source that isn't wikipedia? Yeah. 66.41.66.213 04:28, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
Nudity
The picture of the naked female in this article, should either be hidden or removed since underage children view this site.
-- response on Nudity--
This picture as you call it is not just a picture it's an oil on canvas painted by Gustave Courbet and is called L’Origine du monde (The Origin of the World). Yes you too came out this way into this world. I hope you'll have an opportunity to go to the Musee d'Orsay in Paris where the painting is shown and hope you'll bring your child.
What??
Some also hypothesize that if the woman remains in a horizontal position for some time, due to sexual exhaustion and post-orgasmic pleasure, the chances of impregnation will increase.
Does this really belong here? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Notfed (talk • contribs) 18:21, 23 February 2007 (UTC).
- Nope, as it's unsourced and contains weasel words. I've removed it. Graham87 12:28, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Duration of sexual intercourse
So you powers that be in Wiki decided that "Duration of Sexual Intercourse," a related but clearly distinct topic, had no "encyclopedic value?" otherwise why would it have been killed? Because nobody was yet ambitious enough to go read and then document from published sources what a number of writers here had sketched based on common knowledge?
This "poll" should be removed. I chuckled about three times as I was reading this article. How long shoudl sex last? "Forever" ? you've got to be kidding me--and the fact that it's a published "poll" doesn't add any relevency for me at all. mass147, 07 October 07
Speaking of verifiable sources: "Intercourse often ends when the man has ejaculated." This is biased, not only toward heterosexual sex as the norm, but toward a naturalization of women not being able to achieve orgasm - allowing, in both cases, sex to be considered male-centric. Other areas of the article are not heteronormative, this one shouldn't either. Also, even though 25-40% of men 'suffer' from 'premature' ejaculation according to that article, the premature ejaculation article is much more in-depth than the snippet in the Human Sexual Response article suggests. The second paragraph needs cleaning up, I think, but the third paragraph is well-documented and unbiased. Where is the study done on how long it takes for a woman to achieve orgasm? Also, Estrous Cycle (in See Also) has nothing to do with humans and should be changed to Menstrual Cycle. 4 March 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rismckee (talk • contribs) 11:20, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Dave Barry?
Is a comedian, not an authority. Should be removed. 66.171.171.25 09:45, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- What for? It's a comedic way of stating a commonly held belief. And a belief that is also supported by the survey. 199.125.109.132 04:10, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
It should be deleted. It may be a "commonly held belief," but encyclopedia's are not meant to read comedically. If it is even important to state this, it needs to be stated more neutrally and with a valid reference. mass147 22:21, 07 September 2007 (UTC)
- No. Feel free to add additional examples though. 199.125.109.39 04:30, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Un-encyclopedic material
We're coming up on the three-revert rule here - am I the only one who feels the poll and the quote do not belong in the article? -MBlume 19:28, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- The point isn't whether it is encyclopedit, but whether you can find a better survey that conveys the same information. I think your only objection is the inclusion of humor, which really is not sufficient to say that it is unencyclopedic. The Dave Barry quote in particular is good to keep because it summarizes the difference between someone who wants to just climax and someone who wants to enjoy the process (which could be either sex, but is more frequently the woman [44% vs 32%]). 199.125.109.39 16:16, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- I also believe the Dave Barry quote does not belong in this article. It is not factual. And Dave Barry is not an authoritative source on this topic. I also think the Maxim survey is comedy, not an authoritative source. --Ben Kovitz 05:54, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- The purpose of the survey was clearly not comedy, but an attempt to answer a question. I would love to find a better survey, but this is the only one I have been able to find. 199.125.109.39 19:12, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- It really shouldn't be here:
- It polls a very narrow group of people; (readers of the magazine inclined to respond to a survey online). A subset of people this small will misrepresent all humans.
- The size of the sample group isn't given as best I can tell (The page renders very poorly in my browser so will concede this point if someone can find it)
- The biggie - It is original research carried out and published by a lifestyle magazine.
- Please can someone with a user account remove it?79.68.139.205 (talk) 17:11, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
- Done ^^ -MBlume (talk) 09:05, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Sorry but a lot of scientific surveys include smaller samples than this (3,000 female respondents, number of male respondents not specified). Keep until there is a better survey to replace it. 199.125.109.132 (talk) 17:16, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- It's not just a question of number - the respondants were self-selected readers of two specific magazines. That's not a representative sample. It's funny, but it's not pertinent to this article. -MBlume (talk) 00:11, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think there is a newer survey. If anyone can find it feel free to use it. These numbers are the best we have for now.
- Here is a highly disputed one: http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/sex-and-the-stopwatch/2008/03/06/1204402564069.html
- I think they only surveyed sex therapists: http://minx.cc/?post=257269
and http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,335110,00.html There is a discrepancy between what constitutes sex. The above survey only counts intromission. This characterization says that female orgasm takes almost twice as long: http://www.sexualityeducation.com/femaleorg/ 199.125.109.103 (talk) 22:18, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Duration of sexual intercourse
What exactly is the "collaborative poll" about? The survey seems incredibly unscientific (what is "until she goes," exactly? Because it isn't a sensible answer, any of the other responses could theoretically be increased by 4%). For instance, women can't suggest five minutes where men can, what if it should be less than five minutes or fifteen minutes, "as long as possible" could be the same as 30minutes, there are no indications of how many people were asked, how they were asked (an internet survey could prove unreliable, especially on such a sex-orientated topic), etc etc.
ALSO, the bit on the survey starts "How long should sex last?" Is this suitable for an encyclopaedic topic? Just my two bits... 92.20.97.83 (talk) 21:52, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- "Until she goes" implies that you have sex with her until she leaves (goes). It is simply using the word "comes" for orgasm as a pun. It is a sensible answer, because it means for as long as possible. 3,000 I think, is the number of women who responded. "How long should sex last?" was the name of the survey.[1] Note, the women's answers are in the left column, the men's in the section "results that were too revealing for the magazine" at the right. The main finding was that more men like sex to last 30 minutes or less (32%), than women (23%), and while about a third of each thought it should last until the woman orgasms (32 vs 34%), more women liked incredibly long sex (44% vs 32%). This is typified by the Dave Barry quote. 199.125.109.132 (talk) 02:01, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Just realised someone else commented on similar above, apologies if I've repeated or reopened a long dead argument, but I really think that the poll should be removed. 92.20.97.83 (talk) 21:54, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ditto. An anonymous contributor reinstated that poll from Maxim etc. I got rid of it, despite its inline "citations". --Animeronin (talk) 10:22, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
