  • "himself as a consistent scorer, " worth mentioning that he was a centre forward.
  • Could link List of Motherwell F.C. records and statistics for "record" for the club?
  • " he moved to Football League First Division " it may be worth noting this was in England.
  • " goal average of 0.855 per game,[2]" why this solitary ref in the lead?
  • Link "capped" or maybe rephrase in the lead to something like "never played for" or "never represented"...?
  • Anything about his life before the start of his junior career?
  • ""1915–16 season" (a) which season and (b) is it not curious for some to see this season happening right in the middle of the First World War? Aha, you do it later on ("With Scottish football continuing during the war, ...") so perhaps think of moving that around a bit?
  • " 30 goals by the end of December 1915" question I'm often posed, when is that in the context of the season? It seems some sports run Jan to Dec so this is nowhere near as remarkable as the fact that it was mid-way through the season in question.
  • Link penalty.
  • "Ferguson actually returned' perhaps "nevertheless" instead of "actually" which offers not a lot.
  • Link foul.
  • "Sheffield Star Green 'Un " italics.
  • Link penalty area.
  • "top 5 finishes" five
  • brace is apparently unknown outside these isles...
  • "He was selected for the Scottish League XI ..." split the sentence.
  • "bottom placed side Dumbarton in " bottom-placed side, Dumbarton is overlinked.
  • " win over Ayr United.[64] " overlinked.
  • "our goal achievement" four-goal.
  • "His goals record would last for a single season, until Duncan Walker scored 45 goals the following year.[56]"" seems an odd thing to say twice, if you get my drift. "His record tally was beaten the following season when Duncan Walker scored 45 goals (for X?)".
  • "record breaking season" record-breaking season.
  • "end of the 1921–22 season " overlinked.
  • " £3,500 " inflate these values.
  • I think there's a link for player-manager.
  • "Hat-tricks against Kilmarnock and Clyde ..." reiterate for club.
  • "Third Lanark arranged " overlinked.
  • Link centre-forward (all the way back at the top!)
  • "over Queen's Park" overlinked.
  • There's Progression of the British football transfer fee record for record fees.
  • "holders Bolton Wanderers, Ferguson" overlinked.
  • "FA Cup run" could link the specific FA Cup season?
  • " recoup £1000 for him" £1,000 for comma karma consistency.
  • "was born in Motherwell and" overlinked.
  • Might be worth linking colliery, not sure if that goes across the pond.
  • "the Daily Record wrote " italics.
  • "the Western Mail described" same.
  • John Hunter is overlinked.
  • "He is one of only seven players to have scored more than 350 league goals in the history of Scottish and English football." this is sourced by a 2008 ref. Still up to date? Probably needs an "as of"...

That's all I have. Tragic tale really of someone I've never heard of yet so prolific. On hold. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 17:19, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@The Rambling Man: Indeed, I didn't realise how prolific he was until I started this. I've addressed everything above now. What would your opinion be on an FA run for this, is it on the right track? It's a little light on his early life, as there seems to be very little info I could dig up, but his career is pretty well covered. Let me know what you think, cheers. I'm more than happy with it for GA. I would say it stands a very good chance at FAC, it's nicely written, and I think it's clear too (although these days it's hard to tell with some reviewers) so I'd give it a go! Let me know if you do. I'm passing this, cheers. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 15:27, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
