"Dominant" Australian TV network

[edit]

I'm not sure of the accuracy of describing Nine as the dominant network. Traditionally, this is measured in terms of audience for flagship nightly news programming, in which case in Sydney at least the dominant network in recent ratings periods is Seven.

Alternatively, it could be overall viewers within any one survey period, but this fluctuates too much to be a reliable way to choose between any of the three commercial stations.

A third possibility is the status of a broadcaster as a trend leader. Nine's success with the Brian Henderson 'look' of TV news set the trend for other stations - Nine could accurately be described as dominating news style, with the others following on. But that was then - it is not clear how Nine is leading the style pack any more.

I would welcome anyone else's views about the 'dominance' of Nine, and why this should remain in this article. I am not suggesting replacing it by giving the 'dominant' title to any other network - just removing it altogether. Jeendan 03:06, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
