Huckitta (meteorite)
[edit]Shouldn't this article be named Huckitta (meteorite) rather than simply Huckitta? It seems that other stony-iron meteorites have the article name of xxxx (meteorite) Greg WinterfloodGreg Winterflood (talk) 02:39, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Concur, especially as Huckitta is also a place. I am not sure of the process required to rename an article though. Summerdrought (talk) 04:12, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- If you have a look at the edits and contribs done by User:Basilicofresco you will see that he has written quite a few articles on stony-iron meteorites and has included (meteorite) after the name of most of them. I think it is a simple omission in this case, and should not cause upset if (meteorite) were to be added. I also note that, in the box on the right, that 'stony-iron' does not link and so it should probably be re-written as stony-iron meteorite to effect the link. Trouble is, I couldn't find where to do that, or would have done it myself. Another issue is that the lead para talks of Arapunya, which is a cattle station, as is Huckitta. On which cattle station was the Huckitta meteorite found?

- I have checked the link to stony-iron meteorite, but it is re-directed to Meteorite classification within which, clicking on stony-iron meteorite leads back to the top of the page. It would seem that a separate article is yet to be written specifically about them. Summerdrought (talk) 08:19, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- Regarding the location of Huckitta (meteorite), the Lat&Long given in the article is approximately 10km SE of Arapunya homestead, and 68km NE of Huckitta homestead. (checked by OziExplorer) Summerdrought (talk) 10:03, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Stony-iron meteorites and Circular Redirects
[edit]Outside WP, there are multiple sites which talk about stony-iron meteorites. I found one which sells meteorite fragments! Thought of retiring by selling my IIIAB sample :) ... Yes, I understand the circularity of the references - WP is a bit prone to that by its original architecture - not sure how to escape that problem - except by a lot of editing work!! ONWARDS AND UPWARDS =Greg Winterflood (talk) 09:31, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
- PS - on multiple further readings of the Meteorite classification article I see there is a *redirect* from what may have been a previous article on Stony-iron meteorites which is possibly now included in the classification article. Huckitta is a Pallasite which are a sub classification of stony-iron meteorites. The Italian bloke Basilicofresco, has a comment on the talk page of the Meteorite Classification article asking people not to remove links to *commercial* sites which contain a lot of information about meteorites; but which also have bits and pieces of them for sale. He quotes two links, one Australian and one French: only the Australian one is listed in the External Links of the Classification article at present. =Greg Winterflood (talk) 23:31, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
article re-named Huckitta (meteorite)
[edit]For commonality with other articles as suggested by two editors, Huckitta has been renamed Huckitta (meteorite)--Summerdrought (talk) 03:55, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
- I checked that the redirect works by going to Basilicofresco's user page. There, he has a list of meteorite articles on which he has worked. Huckitta is only one among many. The redirect works. Now we need a Boxhole (meteroite) article. =Greg Winterflood (talk) 04:05, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
- Go for it, I will be otherwise occupied.Summerdrought (talk) 04:16, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
