Please bear in mind that this article is a work in progress. I have Milhaud's book at home, but since I'm not home now, I'll have to supply a page number later. Other fleshing out to come. TheScotch (talk) 07:11, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- Milhaud's Notes without Music, an Autobiography is subsumed by his My Happy Life, which mentions Brubeck at least twice. The first mention goes, "Howard Brubeck is a young Californian who took his M.A. at Mills in 1990 and has stayed on as my assistant. [This young composer has] been invited by Monteaux to conduct [his] works with the San Francisco Orchestra." According to Grove, though, Brubeck taught high school "a few years" in between the M.A. and the Mills appointment. Brubeck recommended that his brother Dave also study with Milhaud. The oldest Brubeck brother, Henry, played drums in Gil Evans's first band. TheScotch (talk) 01:44, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
