General overview

[edit]

The stub sounds like it is about housebuilding in the 'West'. But housebuilding is an extremely general topic, isn't it, international and encompassing everything from the simplest mud hut to the grandest villa? Sionk (talk) 14:39, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Scope for expansion

[edit]

I've just noticed the majority of the article has been based on a childrens book - Building a House. This isn't really the authoritative expert source we should be using, is it?

There's possibly a useful section in the House article that could be incorporated here - the House#Construction section - though it is largely unsourced and quite US based.

In the meantime, I've added a small amount based on a New York Times article which makes some useful(?) points about the house-building industry. It may be useful to find more information about these topics (maybe in a source which is less of an opinion piece).

Other than that, I'd like to see a wider overview of the subject - for example I believe all buildings need to be signed off by an architect in the USA, but this isn't the situation in many other countries. There are also many more methods of construction other than the few so far outlined here. Rather than give instructions for how to build a particular type of house, it may be better to expand upon the different methods available, either in list form or brief prose.
