Rebells did the massacre in Houla

Proposed move
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the proposal was No consensus to move. The other article can already be found via the hat note.Cúchullain t/c 13:19, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Houla → Houla, Syria – Having observed the several moves back and forth of the Houla massacre article and similarly the several moves of the Hula massacre article, I have come to realize that the problem needs to be resolved at the level of the related locations' article, which are Houla and Hula, Lebanon. Since both of these names are transripted from Arabic script, the rendition in Latin script is undetermined, and based on the pronunciation (I assume), it would be legitimate to render as either Hula or Houla (or Hoola, Hule, Howla, Haula, etc.).
I am therefore proposing simultaneously renaming both location articles to a uniform Latin spelling with the addition of the country they're in for disambiguation. Ideally there should be a centralized discussion for both proposed moves, but I'm unsure how best to implement that, so I'm simply duplicating the proposal on both talk pages for beginners, linking simply to the other discussion. - Oppose. Unless there is evidence that reliable sources don't use Houla most commonly to refer to this topic, I oppose disambiguation which seems utterly unnecessary in this situation. --Born2cycle (talk) 23:25, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- Support as obviously ambiguous and adding something does not hurt readability, education value or understandability. If there was support, I could also support a move to Houla Region or Houla Plain. Vegaswikian (talk) 22:43, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
- Support, I agree on your proposal. Aerospace1 (talk) 18:28, 12 August 2012 (UTC) — Aerospace1 (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
- Oppose - there's no need to disambiguate Houla to Houla, Syria as there are no other articles named Houla (using that spelling). As long as we consistently spell the Lebanese town Hula and the Syrian one Houla across Wikipedia, there shouldn't be problems in the naming of articles such as Houla massacre and Hula massacre either. - TaalVerbeteraar (talk) 11:14, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
