[edit]Ummm... is this BEER and PARTIES stuff for real, or is it a prank by a creative editor? 63.82.6.66 03:55, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
So does HPA describe the interface for partition --Ramu50 (talk) 20:04, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Who sets up the register when, and more questions
[edit]I take it that a register is volatile memory, this must mean that the register in the IDE controller is set everytime the computer boots.
So who sets it? The BIOS, the OS? A bootloader? Is it somehow part of a partition table.
Will partition tools (Partition Magic, GParted, fdisk, etc.) display the entire hd, or only the non-HPA area? If they dont show, then how does the user remove the HPA (lets say it has system restore software with Windows, and he knows he will only use Linux).
If you mount the HD as a secondary one, will the HPA still be hidden?
How does the software work, that removes the HPA?
Lets say there is a partition in the HPA area, that contains system restore software, then... Is that partition, still written in the table of partitions in the MBR? Maybe it is listed there with a flag saying, "dont worry that I start off outside the disc, Im there alright, you just cant see me because of HPA".

Manipulation Tools (alleged)
[edit]The article shows 6 bullets for "Manipulation Tools", of which the first 5 have a link in their paragraph entry. The first three do not exist and the sixth has no link or reference. The citations shouldn't point to empty or missing articles but to the URLs their respective "Reference" bullet points to. I'm soliciting feedback with this statement, before actually making the change. Kernel.package (talk) 06:29, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
