Helicopter used in the 1960s
[edit]What type of helicopter is referred to as a "Hornet" in the article about the USS Liberty incident? I don't see a suitable dab entry for that. —BarrelProof (talk) 00:46, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- The footnote on p. 96 of the book Assault on the Liberty says they were Aérospatiale SA 321 Super Frelons; List of aircraft of the Israeli Air Force#Helicopters notes that their Hebrew designation is "Tzir'a (Hornet)". I'll add it, along with an Israeli squadron. Clarityfiend (talk) 00:55, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- You were able to read my comment, find a book devoted to a relatively obscure topic, locate and interpret a footnote on its page 96, and write a coherent, well-formatted hyperlinked Wikitalk response in 9 minutes?! That's gotta be some kind of record. Happy new year! —BarrelProof (talk) 01:51, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. I see that the article on the Aérospatiale SA 321 Super Frelon also includes the term "Super Hornet". I suggest that on this dab page, we list that article in the military aircraft section drather than just mentioning it under "See also" (where I see that you just put it). —BarrelProof (talk) 01:16, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hmmm. I'm not sure which is preferred, so I'll start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation#Translation placement. Clarityfiend (talk) 01:27, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- Remember, each dab entry should have one bluelink if possible. The Super Frelon has two. Clarityfiend (talk) 02:28, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- Sometimes it's hard to reduce it to just one link. I think an occasional exception to that rule is acceptable (e.g., I recall encountering a song written or performed by two people who are discussed in separate articles, and there's no way to establish just one of them as primary). But if we need to drop one, I suggest removing the link to the list of IDF aircraft (since that isn't where to find the most information about the topic). —BarrelProof (talk) 05:42, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- But Super Hornet is a partial match and the article doesn't mention the connection, whereas the list links to the helicopter and provides an explanation for its inclusion here. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:06, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, that's true. I don't feel very strongly about it, but my personal preference is to just leave it like it is here (with two links), and I take the Liberty article as reasonable anecdotal evidence that the simplified translation "Hornet" has made its way into English to some degree. But your knowledge of the topic seems superior to mine, and I will defer to your preference. —BarrelProof (talk) 19:07, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
