[edit]Removed the part about him dying under the delusion that he was the messiah as it had no source and was fairly obtuse pertaining to the flow of the article.
Insanity
[edit]I've heard before that Horatio Spafford died under the delusion that he was the anti-christ, but I've had a hard time finding information about it. Does anyone know the truth behind this? --Yurimxpxman (talk) 02:47, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
I cannot find anything about him thinking he was the anti-Christ. I have found two opposing views of his death. One was mental illness in the 1880's and the other lists Horatio Spafford died of malaria on October 16, 1888. One is general and the other is more specific. Take your pick!
Conflicting statements
[edit]This article, the article on Anna and the one on the American Colony have somewhat conflicting statements, starting with Anna's name. If someone more familiar with the subject could go through the articles, it would be a good idea. --Yupik (talk) 00:05, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Also, there is a conflict between this article and the article "It Is Well With My Soul" referenced by this article in regard to the date that his son died. —Preceding unsigned comment added by [[]] ([[]]) 11:34, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- According to the website of the Spafford Children's Center, history written by the Spafford family, [1] and the Library of Congress, American Memory Timeline, [2] their son, Horatio Goertner Spafford was born on November 16, 1876 after the tragedy of the four girls' death in 1873. He died on February 11, 1880. The Library of Congress says he died of scarlet fever, but the Spafford Children's Center website says that he died of pneumonia. I don't know how to properly edit Wikipedia!Patrick Buck (talk) 02:38, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- I have corrected the "It Is Well With My Soul" article. As far as I can tell, this article is currently correct. --Musdan77 (talk) 02:59, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- "A series of family tragedies began in 1870 when their only son died from pneumonia at the age of four" vs "On February 11, 1880, their only son, Horatio Goertner Spafford, died at the age of four years, of scarlet fever." If all facts are correct in the article, Horatio Junior should be referred to as their second son. 199.8.13.44 (talk) 19:22, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Mental illness - Mental breakdown, delusion he was Messiah, and died
[edit]Horatio had a Nervous breakdown, went to the Middle East, and under the delusion he was the Messiah, died. Perfect example of how history is sometimes rewritten 129.180.159.118 (talk) 08:37, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

- I'm not having any luck finding sources for Spafford's death. Most of the sources directly about Spafford seem to be of the "inspirational" variety, with nothing to say about him that might in any way compromise that storyline. I'll do a bit of digging for academic sources on the Colony and see if they have anything. - SummerPhD (talk) 15:38, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
Ship name
[edit]The ship name that sunk is called SS Ville du Havre, perhaps include a link ? 129.180.149.110 (talk) 12:02, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
- It is already linked. - SummerPhD (talk) 15:51, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
