The Band of Hope organisation operated in Australia and perhaps other parts of the world. I would like the article to be separated from the current UK charity - ie to break out (or fork) the history section up to the 1950s so as to refer to the organisation in a meaningful way when referring to the history of temperance in Australia. Any comments?--A Y Arktos 20:20, 21 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Jabez Tunnicliff

[edit]

The spelling Tunnicliffe in the plaque reflects a 20th century style, but is not authentic. The various sources including Idris Williams and H Marles all have Tunnicliff. A signed photo of Jabez Tunnicliff is reproduced in the book by Marles. And the name as written on a page dating from 23 December 1833 in the original Church Book of Cradley Heath Baptist Church likewise does not have a final e. However, the long horizontal stroke through the final ff could be superficially mistaken for ffe, but comparison with Tunnicliff's style of handwriting indicates that a final e would be clearly written, and probably have some sort of flourish. (I have some pages from CHBC original books copied to my computer.) -- Robert of Ramsor (talk) 01:38, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
