Meaning of Hons
[edit]I only find "hon" short for "honey". Is that the meaning? Denoting the sisters? It would be nice if someone could explain this in the article for us non-native speakers.--2A02:908:1066:C220:F867:90A0:37D3:7940 (talk) 22:23, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Jessica Mitford explains that it's a mispronunciation of "hen", and not a shortening of the British honorific "Honorable" (which is mostly used in writing, prefixed by "The"). I don't think that "hon" short for "honey" was used in 1920s Britain. Being a native speaker of English might not help too much by itself in understanding some of the Mitford family inside jokes and terminology... AnonMoos (talk) 09:44, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
