The picture in the article does not represent a custom paint job. The VF500F shown is a 1985 model. This is discernable by the displacement being written on the seat. Both in 1984 and 1986, it was on the sidecover under the "Interceptor" insignia. That year (1985), the MiniCeptor was available in blue with red trim or red with blue. This is simply the latter, whereas mine was the former. What a GREAT bike! The only modification through the three year production run (other than fixing the cam problems endemic in early example) was in 1986, when the carbs were made smaller and given longer intakes, all to try to up midrange power without hurting top end. I still see examples in good shape. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.242.171.45 (talkcontribs) 23:18, October 13, 2008 (UTC)

ROGER THAT on how wonderful a bike this is!!! It's handling saved me more than once when Joe Buick and his offspring "didn't see me". It was light and had great brakes. One fork had the Torque Reactive Anti-dive Control (TRAC) system that put the brake caliper on a pivot so that braking would rotate it slightly, which through a pushrod would partially close some of the damping orifices inside the fork. Every major Japanese manufacturer had an anti-dive system, but TRAC seemed most elegantly simple to me. I NEVER thought that this bike would let me down or tell me where I was going. Think where you want to go, there it went!!! (Of course, a healthy understanding of physics and counter-steering kept me out of trouble as well) Last major 500cc sportbike made because Kawasaki released the ZX600 Ninja to beat it. Wait, you needed a 100cc advantage??? THAT'S HOW GOOD A SPORTBIKE THIS IS!!! Great engine for its size, comfortable... And the lean forward to the bars saved my back when a Cordoba rear-ended me. (Didn't care about those "rich Corinthian leather seats" while I was flying through the air) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:1C1:8401:665B:F590:1F79:B0B5:3E26 (talk) 17:59, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
