Started article

[edit]

I started the article with information from the Holistic Dental Association and Holistic Dental Network. They appear to be sufficient insider/primary sources for the field. Meaningful expansion will require both academic and skeptical sources.

"To some, holistic dentistry will sound new age and strange; why change dental techniques now? However, holistic dentistry is aimed at focusing on the patient's well being and care. Holistic dental treatments do not differ hugely from traditional treatments but will focus on using dental materials that will not introduce toxins into the body. Holistic dentists will also be able to educate children/parents on ways to maintain a diet that win reduce toxicity in the body. While traditional dentistry focuses only on the areas above the neck, holistic pediatric dentistry looks at the Child as a whole system and how the mouth relates to the rest of the body. The study of children's oral health from a global perspective remains largely in its infancy and is poised for additional development." [15]

NPOV dispute

[edit]

This article takes a very negative standpoint on the subject matter. I came to this article to look over what the dentistry actually was in an attempt to debunk it ... so, I'm here to look at the positives - so I can make an objective argument.

All I found is a blurb overview, followed by a flat out criticisms section. Within the criticisms section - there are actual mentions that selective portions of treatments are seen to be effective. Why is there absolutely no discussion of the effective portions of it, as well as other treatments suggested?

The quality of this article is absolutely terrible. It's a terribly biased submission - with an absolutely one-sided point of view. There is more to this field than "supposedly"

This particular block, for example:

However, the realm of herbal dental hygiene remains a largely understudied realm, and further rigorous scientific evaluations will be necessary to determine the efficacy of different methods.
Some critics of holistic dentistry practice also note that the fees charged by such practitioners are generally several times higher than those of mainstream dentists. Some claim that alternative dentistry is merely the exploitation of niche health beliefs and gimmicks to justify higher fees. A potential example of this is the : Cavitat, a non validated ultrasound device purported to be able to detect alleged lesions described "cavitations" (see: neuralgia-inducing cavitational osteonecrosis), or the non evidence based utilization of breathing apparatus by certain "biologic dentists" during removal of amalgam fillings, intended to reduce mercury toxicity
by eliminating inhaled airborne material. However, others argue that such practices are not representative of the entire field of holistic dentistry.

Packed full of bias without even a source. These edits were made with an agenda and an ironclad bias that seeps out of the screen.
