Merger discussion for Holeya (caste)
[edit]An article that you have been involved in editing—Holeya (caste)—has been proposed for merging with another article. If you are interested, please participate in the merger discussion. Thank you. ILeoMac (talk) 09:28, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
revert of redirect
[edit]revert redirect as wikiguidelines have not been followed. MERGE tag should have been used or move. Chalavadi page is created in oct 17 , whereas Holeya page is in 2011. Without merging how can you keep record of contributors names. As per rule older page remains and new page gets redirected. There are policy of WP:MERGE WP:RENAME which needs to be followed. Let opinion decide it is really worth merge or rename etc - Jethwarp (talk) 05:14, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
Merger proposal
[edit]I propose that Holeya (caste) be merged into Chalavadi. I think that the content in the Holeya (caste) article can easily be explained in the context of Chalavadi, and the Chalavadi article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Holeya (caste) will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. - Oppose - I went thru Chalavadi. The first line itself clearly differentiates the identity of both caste. Whereas Chalavadi are mentioned as Scheduled Caste and Holeya are described as Scheduled out-caste. Chalavadi article clearly points they were acceptable part of society and used to go to Shiva temples and Holeya mentions they were Dalits, out caste and slaves, who could be sold. Chalavadi are mentioned as social group of Karnataka, where as Holeya are mentioned as social group of Karnataka, Tamin Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra. Further, if I go in detail I find the article is copy paste of this in major sections, where Holeya are mentioned. If Chalavadi are mentioned as Holeya, then going by Wikipedia rule book - this Page name should be retained as it was created in 2011. The Chalvadi page created in 2017 can be redirected to Holeya page and any additional information from there can be copied here (retaining contributor's name and inputs by an Admin) as per WP:R. - Jethwarp (talk) 10:37, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
Actually you haven't read reference well and your reference are dubious. Holeya has a community called Chalavādi Mahasabha and they called everyone to mention in census as Chalavādi in Karnataka but not as Holeya so please consider to see reference no 2 to 9. And no one can own a Wikipedia articles according to Wikipedia rules. ILeoMac (talk) 03:24, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
Chalavādi Mahasabha is a Forum for 40 kinds of sub caste in which Holeya are one of it. ILeoMac (talk) 03:26, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- No body is owning article. You have not folowed proper guidelines to mergre , to rename article, Wikipedia is very serious about maintain contributors history. Usually older crearted page remain and newer gets redirected. Also there are lot of grey matter areas, so let community decide. Will come back again on this topic with further inputs Jethwarp (talk) 09:15, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
- [1], [2] - THESE ARE JUST TWOO REFS WHERE CHALAVADI AND HOLEYA ARE METNIONED AS DIFFERENT CASTESJethwarp (talk)
Chalavadi are Holeya, they rebranded their name. if you knew any one from this community you'd know but sadly you don't know any one, be careful there's SC/ST Act, the Prevention of Atrocities Act, our sincere advice to you is read your reference in Holeya (caste) they are totally dubious, don't mark this community with some dummy reference you have attached.(the Dubious reference),& if you'd went through Chalavadi page that means you should've seen this reference no 2. just right beside chalavadi[1] that clearly says holeya's were called by many names (had upto 40 kind) even we don't know many but we added only which we had reference to show., President of this community (Chalavadi Mahasabha) told to give Chalavadi as they caste in Caste census recently in Karnataka. and you might think what in the world is that Gandadabatlu, meet any old Lingayats in Dharwad side they will tell why they call Holeya for marriage esp. for Gandadabatlu. AND More over the men of this HOLEYA caste are sometimes styled by their official designation as CHALAVADI, who is the convener of the meeting of the 18 phana party carrying a brass cup and claim as insignia and Kalavadi is one who calls the villagers before the Patil and revenue officers.[2] open this Reference n kindly read it, we surely don't want to merge cause dubious reference you have added, and please don't redirect HOLEYA PAGE TO HOLEYA (CASTE) PAGE ILeoMac (talk)
- So you have taken our redirects Holiya too and making it to re-direct to Holeya (Caste), are you obsessed with this community. ILeoMac(talk)
