I'm not sure that I have the correct page here, but here goes anyway.
I have issue with the comment "Following the race all three Monaro's were rebuilt to handle rally type conditions for the 1968 London-Sydney Marathon" (also why is there an apostrophe in Monaros ?)
A friend of mine recently purchased the 2nd placed Palmer/West Monaro & the guy he purchased it from bought it in 1968 after Bathurst, with no sign of any rally equipment. This car has been verified as legit by several 'experts' including some ex-GMH people. Also a recent article in AMC (Australian Muscle Car magazine) mentions that Warren Cullen purchased one of the others, also just after Bathurst in 1968.
I believe that the 68 Marathon Monaros were different cars altogether to the Bathurst trio.
The Marathon cars were heavily modified with 350 Chev engines along with TH400 automatic transmissions & integrated air conditioning along with 54 gallon fuel tanks & all of the rally gear. Given how long this preparation took & the fact that the cars had to be shipped to the UK for the Marathon's November start, there wouldn't have been enough time to pick up the pieces from Bathurst & built the 3 rally cars. - I've asked the editor concerned to come and have a second look at what was written, but certainly it looks wrong to me. --Falcadore (talk) 05:22, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- Australian Muscle Car Issue 67 contains two articles relating to this, "Holden Dealer Racing Team" and "The Return of 23D". Between them they leave no doubt that the Marathon Monaros were not the same cars that ran in the 500. It also quotes McKay as saying that GM-H did all the work on preparing the Marathon cars. I see no justification for the inclusion of the Marathon references in this article and am in the process of deleting them. GTHO (talk) 23:01, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
