Merge proposal
[edit]As far as I can see from the Hitachi website, there is no division or subsidiary called "Hitachi Rail", and "Hitachi-Rail.com" is just a name used for the website of Hitachi's railway operations. Railway vehicle research, development and manufacture is the responsibility of Hitachi, Ltd. globally, and Hitachi Europe Ltd. in Europe, so I suggest that this material belongs in the Hitachi, Ltd. article. --DAJF (talk) 12:01, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- If you read the Hitachi page, rail is a small component of a massively diverse company. Unless you expand every one of those items on the main page, it will not fit in with the existing format. I will put a link to this page from that page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.47.199.254 (talk) 04:40, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- True, but what do we do with this article? Rename it "Transportation Division of Hitachi" or something similar? The current name "Hitachi Rail" is arbitrary and misleading, as it implies that it is the actual name of an organization or division within Hitachi, which it is not. --DAJF (talk) 06:22, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- I agree wholeheartedly. Merge it into the Hitachi article- it's shorter than many subsections!--Airplaneman (talk) 22:12, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- I also agree- merge it!Superzohar Talk 13:46, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Proposed merge of Hitachi Rail Italy into Hitachi Rail
[edit]There is no CURRENT justification for this split. When the company was AnsaldoBreda it was notable in its own right. Now AnsaldoBreda is an important part of the Hitachi Rail history, not sufficiently detailed at the target. Hitachi Rail Italy (the origin) doesn't even exist under this name.[1] Rather, HITACHI RAIL STS S.P.A. the actual company name is an UNREMARKABLE unit of Hitachi Rail. gidonb (talk) 22:06, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose, for same reasons as in 2021. Mausefields (talk) 21:15, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- now leaning oppose: the article Hitachi Rail Italy is mostly about the company as AnsaldoBreda and its predecessors, better suited as a standalone article. I wouldn't be opposed to a split of the Hitachi Rail Italy article to a pre- and post-hitachi aquisition, then a merge of the latter.Nyamo Kurosawa (talk) 18:41, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Agree. User nankai oops not logged in 161.29.77.240 (talk) 22:00, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose, the Hitachi Rail Italy article should be about the four remaining manufacturing locations and their specific products and the AnsaldoBreda history. Perhaps a renaming to Hitachi Rail (Italy) would make matters more clear as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KatVanHuis (talk • contribs) 11:40, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose, if needed we can move the page GiovanniPen (talk) 12:00, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
