You can read what took place between Finley and AL owners in articles here[1] and here[2].- William 02:24, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

KC and Oakland years

[edit]

No question, A's suffered under Arnold Johnson's ownership and really were a quasi-major league team which served as a conduit for the Yankees, but there must be a more encyclopaedic way of writing all this. In the post-championship period under Finley, the pattern of irrelevancy repeated itself, but my criticism holds-there's got to be a better way. Hushpuckena (talk) 07:02, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Marge Schott

[edit]

This article states that Steve Schott was the third-cousin of Marge Schott, former owner of the Cincinnati Reds, but his own wikipedia page says that they are of no relation - neither claim has a citation. OldScratchJohnson (talk) 11:09, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Page title

[edit]

Shouldn’t it just be “History of the Athletics” now, no “Oakland”? Dodiad (talk) 20:06, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

History of the Athletics would be confusing as there are multiple versions of the team that all used the Athletics name.. plus Athletics in general.. The team has not officially been rebranded yet in any event. Spanneraol (talk) 20:53, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The article covers the entire history of the franchise, Philadelphia/Kansas City/Oakland. I believe they have announced they will just be “The Athletics” next season, not the Sacramento A’s. In any case, “History of the Oakland Athletics” is no longer accurate (unless it were limited to only the Oakland years, with separate articles on the “History of the Philadelphia Athletics” and “History of the Kansas City Athletics”). Dodiad (talk) 22:26, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are separate articles on the history in Philadelphia and Kansas City. The links are right on the page.. and yes they have announced that the team will be changing it's branding.. but that has not happened yet and likely will not until after the World Series. Requested move 22 November 2024

[edit]

History of the Oakland AthleticsHistory of the Athletics – The team itself, and all secondary sources, are using the name "the Athletics" since November 2024. While the main article was moved to Athletics (baseball), such a parenthetical is not required here: "History of the Athletics" is unambiguous. 162 etc. (talk) 21:37, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Probably could have just moved it without needing to open a discussion. Spanneraol (talk) 22:14, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is some prior discussion above, so this can be considered WP:PTM.
