Nothing from 1711 to 1914 - that's 200 unaddressed years including the whole Industrial Revolution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8805:9100:1A0:EC67:7436:CCAD:5C7B (talk) 02:23, 4 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Debt values

[edit]

Why does the article consistently refer to debt as a % of GDP rather than using the true debt amount. It seems to me quite misleading to do this and makes it all a bit hypothetical. I propose including the actual debt amounts. For instance, debt levels could fall but at the same time the GDP % could worsen yet this would not be reflected here.81.129.207.210 (talk) 11:17, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

GDP tends to grow over time and inflation reduces the value of money. So figures which show the debt as a percentage of GDP are generally more helpful than the nominal value of the debt itself. Asteuartw (talk) 13:05, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ceasing payments/Default

[edit]

I've followed the wording of the source (which shows that after the moritorium on payments from all countries britain didn't start paying again, like most countries). "default" is a loaded term, and we'd need to have good sources to justify the use here, and to try and couch it in different terms with "effectively" is too close to WP:OR without a source. I've also corrected the erroneous information, which would have been a better use of your time, rather than just edit warring.

Per WP:BRD and WP:STATUSQUO, please leave the original version in place, without forcing your own version onto the page while a discussion is in progress (even though you have already breached BRD once, and I wait with baited breath for you to do the same thing again). - SchroCat (talk) 09:54, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
