POV

[edit]

The article requires a clean-up. There are several sections in the article which seem to be written from the point of view of the ruling left front. Sentences like, "In West Bengal, the Communist Party discharged its historic responsibility by playing a crucial role in the organisation of various mass movements. Thus, in 1953, when the already profit earning British-owned Calcutta Tramways Company hiked the tram fare (backed suitably by the then Congress raj) in order to further increase its profit margin, the Communist Party and other anti-Congress parties put up an angry resistance."; "In 1962, when a Sino-Indian border clash occurred, we raised the demand for a solution of the problem through bilateral discussions. For this, a part of the Communist Party was dubbed as Chinese agents."; "In the same year, when an Indo-Pak war broke out, we communists demanded a solution through peaceful talks, and now we were dubbed as the agents of Pakistan." etc. inherently shows the gross POVs peddled through out the article. This needs a major clean-up, if not a complete rewrite. Shovon (talk) 12:29, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On further reading, this is not History of West Bengal, but, "History of West Bengal as depicted in Ganashakti". Shovon (talk) 13:59, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. Just wow, I couldn't agree more. The cleanup required is so extensive I was tempted to just stick an AfD nomination on it... The content is arranged in a very confusing manner with excessive elaboration (rambling, almost), and there is blatant POV all over the place. There are even "we did X" statements in here. Sakkura (talk) 13:10, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Taking a closer look, it seems that practically all the current content of the article comes from one intense editing (or translation?) session here by User:Jayantanth. Looking at his contribs doesn't give me an impression of a vandal or POV pusher, but the edits to this article are suspect. Perhaps it is a case of translating an article from another wikipedia, possibly bringing across any of that source article's flaws in the process? In any case the current state of the article is dire. It even has a subsection called "agitation against computer", which might refer to Rage Against the Machine... The History of West Bengal is the history of localized intellectualism, propensity towards romanticized politics in limited sphere by the State Government and political opportunism by the Union Government of India

[edit]

It is a fact that the majority of the native population of West Bengal tilts towards the left of the center in their political and emotional beliefs. And, the Provincial State of West Bengal has always been seen as an opponent by the successive Union Governments of India, formed by right-wing political parties, such as, Indian National Congress, Indira Congress, Janata Party, Janasangh / BJP, so on and so forth.

The successive Union Governments of India have hardly made any effort to help West Bengal to prosper industrially or economically. Since the time the State was ruled by the Left Front, it has much better Human Rights condition, peace and harmony among different communities, very negligible rate of organised criminal activities, in compared to most of the provincial States of the union of India. Yet, the Union Government of India is apathetic towards West Bengal. May be the central leadership of the party running Union Government is feeling challenged.

On the contrary, Trinamul Congress is a party of Hooligans. The intellectual capability of the party and the quality of leadership are horrible. Despite that, Indira Congress (the ruling party at the Union Level) is using the tactical political alliance with such unthinkable intellectual, moral and cultural pygmies so that they can try for an outside chance of winning the West Bengal assembly elections in 2011.

The feeling is. that as a Nation we never had a true leader leading us post our independence, but crappy politicians ruling the roost. Good Luck West Bengal. Good Luck India. Must we say,'Mera Bharat Mahan'..... My India is great!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.242.106.16 (talk) 21:24, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV

[edit]

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:47, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
