[edit]This Canadian Adventist History and Freedom of Religion entry was started to allow for a more comprehensive presentation of Adventist history without creating an imbalance in The History of Freedom of Religion in Canada entry. DonaldRichardSands (talk) 08:43, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing that. However I'm concerned that the article portrays the issue only from the perspective of the Adventists. WP:NPOV requires that we include all significant views without favoring any. Maybe of there were fewer details it would be easier to achieve neutrality. Also, quoting scripture in a modern history article is probably inappropriate. Our citations should directly concern the issue at hand, not try to make arguments for or against them. - Hi Will Beback, thanks for your help on this article. I removed the actual scripture quote. I had included it not to make the argument for or against but rather to show the scriptural base for the viewpoint. The scriptural passage is not able to clearly assert the Adventist view. Rather, the Adventist view originates from the interpretation of the passage. Regarding "less details". I don't think less details would solve the obvious Adventist focus of the article. There are two points to consider: 1. Adventists have a plethora of issues relating to Freedom of Religion and 2. their archival system allows for a very thorough study of the issues. Regarding excessive detail, perhaps you could point out an example. I think I am too close to the text. It is hard to see how to reduce what seemed important originally. Request for specific evidence of POV statements in the article.
[edit]The article has been challenged for having a non-neutral point of view. Can those concerned show evidence for this lack of neutrality. The article was established to help keep a proper weight to the main The History of Freedom of Religion in Canada article; the quantity of available documents re: Adventist history seems to outweigh what is available for other institutions. The actual existence of an Adventist history article can seem to be a POV. Neutrality seems to be concerned with objectivity. Also, if there are other sources which counter or support the Adventist sources that would be helpful. The Adventist history can provide another window for Wikipedia readers into the issues of Freedom of Religion in Canada. DonaldRichardSands (talk) 03:21, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
