African American and other ethnic history

[edit]

This utterly ignores the long African American connection to and contributions to Long Island and NY (musicians, artists, politicicans, etc.), as well as changes that later ethnic groups brought. There is more mention of 20th c. immigrants in overall article. One-third of the population of LI has Italian heritage, so that should be noted.--Parkwells (talk) 16:25, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnic groups

[edit]

Different groups rise to political power is one way of judging assimilation, also family ties to police and fire depts (heavily Irish and Italian in NY and the island). Current county supervisors - Suozzi in Nassau and ? in Suffolk, also demonstrate rise to power.--Parkwells (talk) 17:52, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
