[edit]Greyhood, can't we at least have "History of Chechens during the Tsarist Empire"? At least, I think the word "tsarist" is important (and I don't understand how the previous wording wasn't neutral). --Yalens (talk) 21:33, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- The state was called Russian Empire, not Tsarist Empire, no need to avoid primary terms in favor of lesser ones. Also, the confusion with pre-Imperial period should be avoided. "During" is bad when we talk about the state. As for the neutrality, "Tsarist Russia" was typically used in the Soviet period with negative connotations. While those negative connotations might not be that strong in the Anglophone literature or may be different in modern usage, Russian Empire or Imperial Russia are more neutral and primary terms. - Well, this is English wikipedia... I don't think that that really applies here (negative connotation of "Tsarist", especially considering that the Soviet Union ended its existence nearly 20 years ago)... I think we should have the old version, in that case.--Yalens (talk) 22:25, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- Neutrality is an additional argument. The Russian Empire is the primary name of the country which should be consistently used throughout Wikipedia. "Tsarist Russia" while common enough, is just a secondary alternate term with possible negative connotations. GreyHood Talk 22:38, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
