Er, are you sure?
[edit]Is it really desirable to have a disambig page for every frequently occurring Japanese (or other) personal name? Yes, I can imagine some benefits if they're edited conscientiously. However, I fear that such pages will be half-baked, with lots of articles unlinked to, leading to the impression that those articles don't exist. -- Hoary 05:46, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sure! There are articles on Alan, Bertram, Gilbert, Akira, and lots more. I only put in links to existing articles. Lots of room for more. Fg2 06:13, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I know. From that lot, I chose Bertram. Click it, and see what's there. Now search for "Bertram". One thing Bertram is not is a disambig for Bertram Somebodies (a Bertroid parallel to David (disambiguation)). Does anybody want to make it into one? If anybody does, is he or she going to continue? If not, who's going to take over? -- Hoary 06:43, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- Have a look at this version of David (disambiguation). It's a good example of how a small start can grow over the years. Conceding that Hiroki will not grow like that, I still think it's worthwhile. And disambiguation isn't the only function of articles on names; discussions of meanings, and prominent holders of the name who influenced parents to select it for their daughters and sons, are just a couple of possibilities. Well, OK. But I fear that articles such as this will on average never get more than half the number of names that belong to them. -- Hoary 11:02, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
