NPOV Issue
[edit]This article is a little rosy about his motives and views on the local Greenlanders. For more about the economic incentives and racist paternalism underlying the company's need to maintain 'unsoftened' hunters and overcharge for luxuries like sugar, including Rink's impassioned defense of his company's trading monopoly, see Marquardt, Ole. "Change and Continuity in Denmark's Greenland Policy" in The Oldenburg Monarchy: An Underestimated Empire?. Verlag Ludwig (Kiel), 2006. For his company's policy – continued under his administration – on avoiding intermarriage with locals among senior officials and avoiding intermarriage with Europeans among junior ones (producing dual racial underclasses, one charged with hunting for the company, the other with low-end administration), see Seiding, Inge. "Colonial Categories of Rule – Mixed Marriages and Families in Greenland around 1800". Kontur, No. 22 (2011).
I'm not saying they're entirely unbiased either (I don't know enough to judge here, which is why I'll leave the links here for other editors to weigh), but his love and protection of Greenlandic culture seems to have come with some fairly major caveats and protection of his own interests and privileges. — LlywelynII 00:57, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Changed the importance
[edit]of the article for Greenland to mid, since he was so influential in avoiding liberalizing Greenland during the 19th century and successfully maintained Royal Greenland's monopoly over the economy for another century. — LlywelynII 01:04, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
