- this article mentions " "Mount Emily Lumber Company" by John A. Taubeneck, Winter 2000 Tall Timber Short Lines: pgs 12-21." Decent news hits too (including NYTimes mention) tedder (talk) 22:06, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Name
[edit]The direct quotes from OGN are "...apparently named for Eugene W. Hilgard..." and after the explanation of the familial relationship, the ag survey and the birthname, it says "The cousins should probably share the distinction." (emphasis mine) Although I don't like the construction "according to so-and-so" in favor of simply citing the info without attribution, I'd be OK with that construction here, since the McArthurs appear to be hedging. I think I trust them on this though. Katr67 (talk) 11:02, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
- P.S. The OGN entry also implies that because the famous Hilgard was around, the starstruck locals renamed the p.o. to honor him. Katr67 (talk) 11:04, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm. I guess I'd lean towards "named for A or B". My source is just two pages of appendix, uncited (while the book itself has cites). It is pretty clear though- "Hilgard is Henry Vilard's original last name".. though the lawyers would note the phrase doesn't directly state it is named after Henry, just that his name happens to be the same. tedder (talk) 11:11, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
