File:Lamprotornis hildebrandti -Tanzania-8-2c.jpg to appear as POTD soon
[edit]Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Lamprotornis hildebrandti -Tanzania-8-2c.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on November 6, 2011. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2011-11-06. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 17:59, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
Hildebrandt's Starling is a species of starling named for Johannes Hildebrandt, a German collector who was the first European to obtain specimens. It is found in Kenya and Tanzania, where it occupies open woodland and open thornbrush country between 500 and 2,200 m (1,600 and 7,200 ft). Male and female adults appear identical, both having bright iridescent blue plumage on the upper body and upper surfaces with an orange-buff to rufous breast and belly. The juveniles are quite different, with charcoal grey upperparts and chestnut brown lowerparts.Photo: Noel Feans
"the first specimens"
[edit]"A German collector who obtained the first specimens" is a Eurocentric view--surely it was familiar to native people long before that. Ccrrccrr (talk) 13:55, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
- Specimens implicitly suggests scientific purpose behind the collecting. But feel free to clarify if yo wish. Sabine's Sunbird talk 19:51, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
