HEI vs DUI

[edit]

This article begins by defining HEI as a coil-in-cap distributor. But later, it mentions a common version with a remote coil. The coil-in-cap design is a defining characteristic of the DUI system, but is not specific to either the GM HEI system, or any aftermarket HEI-type systems (although it IS common in them). The defining characteristic of HEI is the maximum energy level of the spark (as the name implies) as distinguished from earlier high-resistance low-efficiency coils (regardless of their location).
