Fifty new exoplanets Sept 2011

[edit]

Need to add this - ESO have announced 50 new exoplanets - http://www.eso.org/public/news/eso1134/ plus BBC here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-14890143

Oddly enough finding HARPS via google is a bit hard. Just searching for HARPS wikipedia only ever gets the harp i.e. the musical instrument page which is the target of the harps redirect page. If you search for harps astronomy wikipedia then you get this HARPS page. Fromthehill (talk) 05:43, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do we need the long list of planets discovered

[edit]

The Planets discovered by HARPS section is just a long table of names with dates to 2009. Can we refer to a full list on HARPS website ? What is the criteria for inclusion here ? Can the table be split to make it shorter ? Or hide/show parts of it ? - Rod57 (talk) 02:37, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Most accurate spectrum of Thorium

[edit]

I could not find a description of the thorium spectrum measured by HARPS in reference 1 which is cited for this statement: "The precision and sensitivity of the instrument is such that it incidentally produced the best available measurement of the thorium spectrum" and have therefore removed the reference from the statement.
