Requested move

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus to move. No sources for McNeil as correct spelling have been produced, and MacNeil appears to be the common name in any case. Favonian (talk) 11:05, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hermon Atkins MacNeilHermon Atkins McNeil – It is a common misconception of McNeil's last name to be spelled 'MacNeil,' and his relative later confirmed the true spelling of McNeil's name. relisting Andrewa (talk) 09:51, 3 July 2011 (UTC) Requested by Cossacksson (talk · contribs) in this edit. Spelling of last name

[edit]
MacNeil's signature, not in the flesh,
but in bronze

According to the Smithsonian Institution Research Information System (SIRIS), the spelling he used when signing his sculptures was M-A-C-N-E-I-L.[1] BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 21:13, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ...............

[edit]

where was MacNeil born? One editor recently posted that he was born in:

[[South Malden (now Everett), Massachusetts]].

This is really unwikipedic looking, but is it correct? I started looking around and it gets messy pretty quickly. Looking in Mantle Fielding, the standard for American artists I find "born Everett MA" [1] "Who's Who in American Art" agrees. [2], as do several other standard references [3] [4]. Proske, whom I have a lot a respect for and trust in says "Chelsea, MA" [5]. McSpadden, who actually interviewed MacNeil writes, "born at Prattville near Chelsea" MA [6]. Craven, who begins his section on MacNeil by quoting McSpadden, has Mac being born "near Chelsea." [7] So, we should say what?
