Herman, Count of VerdunCount Herman of Ename – 1. Count Herman is not known as a count of Verdun like his father and brother. 2. He is and was associated mostly with Ename. 3. I know there is a tradition on WP to use X, Count of Y, but this really does not work all the time in this period, not only because such titles are anachronistic but also because you could be count without a county, and the counties themselves were not seen as entities with fixed names and definitions, let alone titles. I would just call it Herman of Ename. Or, what you proposed is OK. Dr. Grampinator (talk) 22:20, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would also be OK with your proposal. Let's see if we can get one or two more comments. I have no strong opinion but "Count of Verdun" is factually incorrect. (Maybe I should have used an RFC template instead of requested move template now that I think of it.)--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 07:23, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Srnec: and some prefer to call him a margrave although I am not sure if it was used for him personally. Simplest option sounds best? (Herman of Ename)?--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 07:03, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Herman(n) of E(e)name works for me. Srnec (talk) 22:43, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Was he a count of Verdun?

Should this article be re-named? --Andrew Lancaster (talk) 11:19, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
