Apparently the orchestral version was never released, but I have a very "official" looking cassette version of this. I must have a look at the receipt (if it's still inside) and see where I picked it up.

The vinyl Boxed version was indeed quadraphonic but the CD Boxed version was in stereo which included Hergest Ridge. The information in the listing is therefore wrong in saying that all subsequent Hergest Ridge albums were in quadraphonic.Peter Jensen (talk) 12:41, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

D'oh. There ain't no such thing as a quadrophonic CD, since quadrophonic sound is not contemplated in the "Red Book".

To the best of my knowledge, it seems there have been several versions of this recording, both on CD and LP, that used different mixes and sounded quite different from the original issue. No subtle tweaks, the mixes were drastically different. Note that I'm not talking about the 2010 re-issue here (haven't heard that one yet) but issues from the late 70's - early 80's onwards. I ran into this when I wanted to replace my original vinyl copy which much to my regret was damaged beyond recovery. No luck: each and every copy I got my hands on was different from the original as I remembered it - to the point that I came to believe my memory of the original must've been way off. It was only after a few decades that I managed to locate a vinyl rip of the original issue which proved I hadn't been hallucinating for 20 years. Anyone in the know care to shed some light on this? The original, 1974, mix of the album vanished from human ken after the release of the Boxed set, as thereafter all releases were of that remix. That is until the Mercury expanded reissue of 2010, when it was once more made available.86.13.147.181 (talk) 22:30, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
