[edit]In case anyone is interested in expanding, it appears there's a biography on him in the Dictionary of National Biography, which presumably has more detail than this stub, but I don't have easy access to that work. --Delirium 11:22, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Needler manuscripts
[edit]This article, and indeed Needler's entry in the Dictionary of National Biography Online, each refer to multiple volumes of Needler manuscripts in the British Library, but I just searched the BL MSS catalogue online and I could only find one 44-page volume of transcribed Palestrina secular vocal music.
The 1894 printed DNB states: Needler's extensive transcriptions from the Oxford and other libraries are in the British Museum Addit. MSS. 5036 to 5062.
I cannot find any trace of them in the catalogue!

more on those Needler MSS
[edit]I can report that the MSS appear in the printed, and not the online catalogue (as at August 2009) as "Needler (Henry), of the Excise Office. Transcribed the MSS. 5036-5062."
